Well after four days of getting the run around by these birds I decided to bring my good luck charm Zack(11yo) and sure enough it paid off big for both of us.

The birds were roosted clear on the other side of the field 400 yds from where they usually are. After an hour or so a group of them starts working towards us, they get about 80 yards from us and decide to skirt around the other side of the hardwoods we're in. Quickly I tell my Zack to grab his gun and I grab the Accomplice and we're off on a run to try and cut the birds off on the other side. We get to where we need to be and there's no cover except a big poison ivy patch, I quickly set up one of those little two foot tall screens with the snap together poles and we get down behind it. It isn't two minutes later here comes a jake and three toms. There is some brush between us as they're coming but once they step clear it's fifteen yards with nothing between us and nothing to break up our outline behind us. The jake gets in the open with the first tom only two steps behind and the second right on his heels. Sure enough the first tom has us pegged instantly, too late, he was down before he had a chance to wheel around. Zack almost in the same instant drops the hammer on the second one!

Both birds were practically twins 20lbs 10" beards 1 1/16" spurs, definately not the biggest birds, but one of my most memorable hunts ever!

The only thing that would have made it sweeter yet would have been a double bow kill!

Congrats to you and your son. What an experience that had to be, running and gunning, a double up with your 11yr old, and a combo bow/gun kill. Holy cow is that story going to be hard to top at the family Christmas. Grin

FINALLY..........FINALLY..........FINALLY

I can FINALLY post that I killed something with my Athens. It has been long awaited, and certainly has not been because of lack of effort. I have had very bad luck, and was beginning to think that I had a curse or something.

Okie and I went on a hog hunt in Oklahoma with a buddy of mine and Stan Mercer, owner of Red Feather Archery. It was an RFA staff hunt, and we were shooting the new Phoenix broadhead. We had a great time, and everyone left with a kill, but not all hogs. Stan and I took hogs, Okie wasted a turkey, and my buddy shot a Ram(non RFA broadhead).

Here are some pics, sorry they are not the best pics showing off the Athens. I don't have a picture of Okie's bird, maybe he'll post it.
